Gary Hamel at HCI Summit

by Lois Melbourne

Gary Hamel, management guru and author, delivered an amazing presentation at the HCI Human Capital Summit. He talked about how little innovation has occurred in management methodology over the last several years. Hamel asked the question, “What innovations of management are just out of our vision right now?” Then he urged, “We need to look for it. We are really due for some change.” He presented many examples of great management innovation. His Harvard Business Review papers are chock full of these case studies.

He discussed how change in the business world is happening so quickly. Change is everywhere, yet we are still trying to tackle these new problems with old management methods. My favorite quote of Hamel’s was, “Change is happening so fast that we’re all becoming stupider faster.”

So, my question to you is, what are we doing to learn faster than the world’s rate of change?
